Vintage 1965 Schwinn Sting Ray Bicycle. Selling as found. I have not cleaned it. It's not as beat up as most. I plugged the serial number into the box and it came back as a 1965 model. Schwinn World Vintage Road Bike Ten Speed XL 63cm 27in 1985. Inspect the number to determine if it has five digits and begins with a 1. Mongoose frames manufactured in 1975 to early 1976 had five-digit numbers hand-stamped on them, starting with 10000. If the serial number of your Mongoose has a number such as 11994, with no letters in or near the number, it is likely a frame from 1975 or early 1976. All vintage Schwinn bicycles have identifying serial numbers engraved on their frames. The exact location varies depending on the bike's production year.

On bikes older than 1948 you need to use reference to other, known year bikes,
or pull out the crank to look for a date stamp on it. Doing both is a good idea.
All serial number records before 8/18/1948 were lost in a factory fire.
