Serial Number On Tamron Lens

This lens from Amazon is about $180 less than the big photo stores. Is it grey market? Do you receive the 6-year Tamron warranty when purchasing here?

This is where you can find the serial number (picture no. 3 shows position on the 18-200mm Di III VC).

  • Where to locate serial numbers on my new lens. I can't find my lens serial numbers on my new tamron 18-270 and 17-50 lens Posted by auralie on May 07, 2010. All of my Tamron lenses have the serial number on the barrel of the lens right next to the 'Made in Japan' label. When the lens is in the camera the MIJ label is on the bottom side.
  • Tamron puts the macro designation on all lenses that have a maximum close-up capability of 1:4 (0.25x) or larger, regardless of the lens type. However, there is a difference between a macro lens and a zoom lens in the image quality for close-up photography.

The lens looks new and appears to work fine, so I'm going to hang on to it for now. It should, however, be better listed that this is a grey market lens (i.e. no manufacturer warranty) so people know what they're buying. Brian Keeley's 'Full warranty...' comment is misleading, based on how amazon is listing this item. see less
